| Personal InformationGender: Male Age: 24 Name: Canelyn lor Adregon I; formerly Sir Canelyn Anlorr of Ohndir Likes: Sweet foods, Fairness, Swordsmanship, Magic, History & Lore, Reading, Writing, Horsemanship, Resolve, Loyalty, Crossbows, Archery. Dislikes: Spicy foods, Cowardice, Neglect, Tyranny. Personality: Canelyn, much like former Kings and Queens of old, has always cared much for the people of Adregon. The way in which he got things done, however, differed entirely from former monarchs of the Kingdom. Handsome and likable, Canelyn became a highly respectable knight of Adregon, who was loved by his people. The difference between Canelyn's way, and the old way of doing things is Canelyn was always far more practical whereas the old Kings/Queens strictly adhered to honor and nobility, a code called the Code of Chivalry. That very code would eventually put him at odds with the old way of doing things. Canelyn always had a hidden ambition, he desired the throne, however, his modesty and honesty always got the better of him, and he respected the King. Due to his conflicting emotions, he had been easily misguided by his own mother, who served to manipulate her son into usurping the throne of Adregon. Canelyn's also been regarded more as a man-of-action than a man-of-words. Even as the King of Adregon, Canelyn now feels as though he must prove himself to the people, and ultimately earn their undying respect, support and loyalty. Sometimes he finds himself questioning if what he did was necessary for the Kingdom's progression. Due to his actions, he bears a heavy burden on his shoulders; the burden of regret. To those who have actually spoken with Canelyn, many agree that he is a man of few words, with a cold demeanor, that would intimidate even the boldest of foes. Sorrow is the source of his demeanor. Nonetheless he is well-known for his patience, resolve and cunning, and this is why so many people are starting to support his reign over Adregon. Biography & RP-SampleBirthplace: Ohndir County, Kingdom of Galenth BiographyCanelyn is Born - Spoiler:
Canelyn's birth was something planned by his meticulous mother, a noblewoman of Ohndir, in the Kingdom south of Adregon called Galenth. She was a reputable mage, who was the King's court mage in Galenth. Being of noble birth, she was expected to attend affairs of state, and would travel with the King to other Kingdoms, among them, Adregon. Namira, Canelyn's mother knew that their noble family could never take the throne of Galenth for themselves, so, she set her eyes upon the Kingdom of Adregon.
In the Kingdom of Adregon, she met the young King, Angelus sol Adregon IV. She was more lovely than ever, but Angelus simply did not trust her, and knew all too well of her sorcery and arcane knowledge. When it was nearing the time for the King of Garenth to depart Adregon and return to his home in the south, Namira knew it was either now or never. Using her noble-birth as a means of contacting the King directly, she entered his quarters in Castle Adregon, and tried seduction. However, this was no normal seduction... The clever noblewoman ended up enchanting Angelus in his vulnerability.
The day the King and his company left, Namira knew that she would have a potential heir that could one day claim the throne of Adregon rightfully, and she smiled at the thought, looking back at the Castle and Angelus before leaving with her King. Angelus knew all too well what had happened the night earlier... And knew that one day, perhaps his lust for her will have ruined the entirety of the Kingdom. Youth & Adolescence - Spoiler:
When Canelyn was born, the first thing Namira had done was tell Angelus that their baby “boy” had been born. Angelus knew that everything was starting to catch up to him. A few years later, Namira used her son as leverage to change their residence from Ohndir to Adregon, placing her ever closer to the King's court, and still with the privileges of a noblewoman. So, Canelyn grew up within Lensia, the capital city of Adregon, as a privileged nobleman.
Even as a boy, Canelyn was fond of swordplay, hearing stories of the legendary Knights of Adregon, and how Adregon was perhaps the most powerful Kingdom in all Theyla. He ended up becoming a close friend of the Angelus's son, and heir-apparent, Pergaius sol Adregon. As boys they would practice their sword-fighting and go out on minor adventures together all throughout the Kingdom.
When Canelyn was around thirteen years of age, he became a Squire to Sir Halbert Longsfin of the Royal Army. It was Sir Halbert Longsfin who taught him the disciplines of being a Knight of Adregon, and who mentored the young boy to one day become a great warrior of the Kingdom. He was also taught humility, and that hard-work reaps plenty of rewards. There was always an occasion where Sir Halbert or even Prince Pergaius sol Adregon would exploit his servitude just to pull Canelyn's strings and embarrass him in front of passerby's, especially of the female variety.
After three years of humble servitude, Canelyn became one of the Royal Army's youngest man-at-arms. He experienced minor skirmishes with bandits as well as the day-to-day responsibilities of law enforcement within the Kingdom. Often, his advantage in combat would be his age and apparent lack of experience, which he could use to exploit his opponent's weaknesses.
A few more years would pass, and already Canelyn had become a Lieutenant within the Royal Army. Pergaius sol Adregon was a disciplined Prince at this point, and Canelyn often served the Prince directly, being sent on tasks pertaining to the Kingdom's higher command, with some men-at-arms at his disposal. Throughout his many ventures within Royal Army, the tasks he was given by the Prince were the ones that really showed the rest of the Army and the King himself of Canelyn's astounding leadership skills, and finesse in combat. Sir Canelyn Anlorr of Ohndir - Spoiler:
When Canelyn reached the ripe age of twenty-one, he was finally Knighted by King Angelus sol Adregon IV for his exceptional loyalty and stalwart ability as a warrior and decisive leadership over the armies of Adregon. He was then accepted into the Royal Guard, with Prince Pergaius sol Adregon as the Grand Master of the Royal Guard.
Reports came in about an oncoming raid of a farming village in Adregon's countryside. Pergaius, looking to prove himself as rightful heir to the throne had actually made it his responsible to combat the bandits and prevent the damage or destruction of the peaceful farming village. He brought with him twelve of the Kingdom's best Knights, and marched on horseback in the direction of the village. Among those knights was Canelyn, his old friend, oath-brother, fellow knight and retainer.
When they arrived, the farming village hadn't yet been attacked. Canelyn helped Pergaius organize the villagers and have them garrison in one of their safest or sturdiest structures, so the villagers did just that. The scouting party arrived at the scene, and told Pergaius and Canelyn that they should've brought more men. Before Pergaius could question why exactly that was, a company of bandits came marching in the direction of the farming village numbering in over a hundred. The twelve knights, scouting party and a few willing militiamen armed themselves, and prepared for the oncoming attack.
Pergaius had ordered one of the villagers to report to the Lower City fort, and return with reinforcements. The villager ran off in the direction of Lensia. While the bandits were mobilizing, Pergaius, Canelyn and the rest of their men readied some battlements to aid in the village's defense. With the little time they had. The twelve knights and the scouts readied their bow & arrows, and when the bandits were in range fired down on them, knocking out a little over a dozen. They managed to knock out another dozen before the bandits approached the barricade the Prince and his men set up.
Before the bandits could maneuver around the barricade, Prince Pergaius ordered six of the knights on horseback to split up and plow through the enemy lines. This tactic resulted in another twenty bandits dead, however it was not enough to prevent the bandits from breaching what little defenses they had. Canelyn helped Pergaius organize what men they had into a formation that would do them some good and bide them some time.
The Knights fought bravely against the company of bandits that outnumbered them four-to-one. However, they simply could not keep up. As time passed, they were forced to fall back. Breaking through the enemy lines, the Prince ensured that the people of the village would remain safe, and flee in the direction of Lensia, prioritizing their lives over the lives of himself. In order to safely escape, what remained of their small force had to escort them to the safety of Lensia, and they couldn't escort unless at least two to five of the Knights remained behind.
Prince Pergaius decided he'd stay behind, willing to sacrifice his life for the people at all costs. Canelyn decided that he'd stand right by the Prince's side, and two other Knights also chose to stay behind. The rest guided the people to safety. The four Knights fought to their last breath, the two knights that had aided Prince Pergaius and Canelyn ended up falling in battle, it was only Prince Pergaius and Canelyn, and the two knew that only one had the chance to survive. Pergaius decided he was willing to die for his oath-brother, but Canelyn argued it saying that a Prince's life is far more valuable than his own. Pergaius wouldn't have it, he shoved Canelyn down a hillside and away from the bandit's eyes, and then charged at the remaining bandits to diverge their attention.
The Prince fought valiantly until his death. Reinforcements had arrived, and what would normally have been no more than 50-100 men-at-arms ended up being over 3,000 since it was the Prince's life that was at stake. They were too late, but they managed to purge the burning village of all remaining bandits. After a few of them had recovered the Prince's body, a Captain in the Royal Army approached the only survivor that actually stayed behind, Sir Canelyn of Ohndir.
From that day on, Sir Canelyn of Ohndir was given a variety of honors and titles, and even more land by the King himself. It would never measure up to the Prince's life, but, it would be enough to give Sir Canelyn a bright future for all his merits and his sense of duty to the Kingdom. The Prince's funeral was vast but depressing, and Canelyn would forever be emotionally damaged, ashamed that he could not defend Pergaius's life; the man he considered his blood-brother; the man he expected to follow to the ends of the Earth. But alas, it was too late for that. The Prince had ventured to the world beyond without Canelyn.
After the funeral, Canelyn was given an audience with the King. Apparently the King had saw something in Canelyn, that reminded him so much of Pergaius, and for that reason, Angelus relied upon Canelyn to serve as his adviser-in-chief, bearing the utmost trust in him. This obviously made Lady Namira of Ohndir happy, since it placed her son in a political position much closer to the King of Adregon. The truth was, Angelus was well aware that Canelyn was his illegitimate son, and it was for that reason that he treated him like his own blood.
Around this time, Canelyn was also put in a position that gave him command over the King's Royal Guard, and he played his part honorably with the utmost amount of competence. Sometime afterward, Canelyn was also a leading member of the war against Sir Lundor, who Angelus had been fighting for over seven years. It was about time that Angelus realized the war needed to end, so, he and his most capable men sailed to Fort Loyal's Blood in one of the islands in the Elmund Sea. While he went off, he made Canelyn his regent, since his other children were too young for that responsibility. Canelyn gladly accepted.
While the final battle in the war lingered, Canelyn realized the people's suffering, and just how much the war had exhausted the Kingdom under Angelus's reign. Now it was Canelyn who decided that the war had to end, and soon. Going against King Angelus sol Adregon IV's orders, he deployed a battalion of archers and crossbowmen to quickly end the war, despite that it would break the code of chivalry practiced kingdom-wide.
Canelyn's decision resulted in the war reaching its conclusion, however, Angelus was so upset with Canelyn because he looked at it as insubordination, and it even led to King Angelus having broken the vow he made before attacking the fort. As punishment for his so-called “crimes”, Canelyn was forced into exile. It pained the King to do so, but, he put his honor and nobility before his loved ones. The major difference between Canelyn and Angelus. To Canelyn, it was the code of chivalry that truly killed Prince Pergaius sol Adregon. In Exile - Spoiler:
Upon being exiled, Canelyn had been stripped of his titles and landholdings within the Kingdom of Adregon. His mother however, still held residence in the capital city, nonetheless she followed after her son into exile. They fled south to the Kingdom of Galenth, where Canelyn was born, and had family. There time spent in Galenth wasn't as horrid as one might think somewhere you go to exile should be. His uncle was a Baron in Galenth, and had a fort of his own within Ohndir County.
Canelyn didn't waste any of his time. Once he entered Galenth, he used his uncle's renown in the Kingdom to earn the respect of other nobleman, and even the King of Galenth. This was all so that he could develop an army behind him, since he intended to earn his right to return to Adregon, which he considered his homeland. Little did he know, that the ambition burning inside him was only a part of his lineage as the illegitimate son of the King.
He spent on a few months rallying an army, and he intended to strike at the time of year when the King's army would least expect it: winter. So, armies began to support Canelyn's cause, and were drawn to his natural charisma. The King of Galenth shook on his Kingdom's allegiance to Canelyn and what would one day be made into the new Kingdom of Adregon. While he was amassing a large enough army to combat King Angelus, he at the same token hated himself for it. To many he had no right to the throne, but perhaps that would be proven wrong when the time comes.
With the armies of Galenth prepared to march on Lensia, Canelyn set his sights on the Kingdom of Adregon, well aware of its history for having an impregnable defense. Canelyn's mother told him that perhaps the bandits of Low Hografign would know a way into Lensia, and also that there were rumors of a legendary sword in High Hografign. Canelyn set out to the Hografign Mountains, notorious for the danger they posed. She had also revealed to Canelyn, that he did have a right to the throne, and that Angelus sol Adregon IV was actually his father, and potentially feared the possibility of Canelyn's rise to the throne, which is why he chose to exile him to begin with. Canelyn had no reason not to believe in his mother's words, and upon hearing it... He knew this would become a war for succession.
With him, his uncle and a small troop of Galenth knights followed in earnest. They had to cut through the southern passes of the mountain range in order to avoid the detection of various patrols from the Kingdom of Adregon. His mother gave him a lead within the Hografign mountains that would know of both the old, underground passageways into the capital city, as well as the location of the legendary sword; this lead was one of the lower mountains oldest bandit chieftains, Chief Cukorll, leader of the Cukorll Tribe, known by bandits as “Old-White”.
When they arrived, they were not welcome with open arms, but instead, hostility. Bandits were not fond of knights who lawfully served the rich noblemen of Theyla. When Canelyn asked of both the underground tunnels, and the legendary sword, they answered with drawn blades. When the Chief presented himself, he told him that Canelyn would get the information he wanted if he could prove himself worth their time. He accepted their challenge, and ended up in what they called the Proving Grounds of their settlement.
Surrounded by the wild bandits of Low Hografign and his own men, Canelyn was forced into a series of open arena matches. He had to cut down one man after another, using all the martial knowledge he had obtained throughout his life as a member of the warrior-class. In the end, Canelyn had succeeded, and Old-White lived up to his word. He had mapped out the way into Adregon, and offered some of his own men to aid Canelyn in his efforts. Canelyn had accepted. Also, Old-White pointed him in the direction of the sword, but warned Canelyn that there are other warriors who seek the same weapon he was, the weapon's name, a longsword known throughout all of Theyla as Cymwyseddau.
Canelyn had to wonder into High Hografign, at one of its highest peaks. By the time Canelyn was nearing the peak the sword was believed to be on top of, only a few of the younger and more fit knights could continue their journey to the top. When they arrived, there had already been a few warriors who attempted to approach the sword. The sword was stabbed into a mound of ice, with winds whirling rapidly around it, protecting those on the outside from reach it.
A couple of the men had tried to grab the sword, but their hands were torn asunder by the violent winds. Before Canelyn had approached, he was reminded of a key his mother handed to him, imbued with her enchantments. Everyone stepped aside as yet another desperate soul approached the sword. This time however, Canelyn reached for the key his mother had given him, and pressed it through the winds. Surprisingly it was blown away. And when he removed the key from the winds, the enchantment had been dispelled.
The moment everyone realized this, they jumped for the sword. The only problem now was tearing the sword from its resting place within an icy mound. No one could do it, since no one else was the one who possessed magic or dispelled the enchantment. Canelyn approached after many of the others tried, and wrapped his right hand tightly around the sword's hilt. The men present had an idea, if the strange warrior pulls it out, they could kill him and take the sword that way. Canelyn's escort wasn't expecting such an ambush, and when he pulled the sword from the icy mound, the men attacked.
The bandits and other rogue warriors nearest to Canelyn struck first, but using the power of Cymwyseddau, he managed to not only parry their attacks, but he even shattered their swords. They were swiftly cut down, and then the men with Canelyn attacked the rest of the bandits or otherwise there. In the end, Canelyn and his escort lost not a single knight. They left the Hografign Mountains without any problems. War on Adregon - Spoiler:
Once everything outside of the Kingdom was in place, Canelyn decided to infiltrate Adregon under the cover of night using the underground passageways he was told about by a bandit chief in Low Hografign. Once in the city he remained cloaked, and began speaking individually with those he knew he could count on in the war against King Angelus sol Adregon IV. By gathering supporters actually within the capital city, he'd have an even greater advantage against his opposition.
Once everything was prepared, Canelyn gave a speech to his supporters in Galenth, encouraging them that what they were doing had nothing to do with old ties to Adregon, and that Adregon had fallen from its former glory under the declining leadership of King Angelus sol Adregon IV. He also shared with him that his rise to power would not be an unholy one, for he shared the same father as the Kingdom's heirs, and that supporting him was for the good of the Kingdom. All of his supporters cried out and raised their swords. The following day, they marched.
The moment they marched, Canelyn had courier-pidgeons sent out to his supporters in Lensia, that informed them that the moment his army clashes with Angelus's loyalists, those within Adregon should strike at Angelus, thus pressuring his army on both sides. On their way there, some of the villagers they passed were even happy to supply Canelyn and his army with food and drink so that they could continue their advance.
A few miles away from Lensia, a patrolling squad of Adregon's knights took note of Canelyn's army. They rushed for the capital, however, Canelyn had anticipated that they'd be spotted before he had originally intended to be, and scouting teams were already set up leagues ahead of his main forces. These scouting teams pursued the knights, and routed them, allowing for a less prepared Lensia. Canelyn had no intention of harming the people of Adregon, only the royal army and those fighting to defend it; after all, the plan was to rule over the people, not kill them.
Just two miles away from the capital city, Canelyn's army was spotted. The warning bells rang, and the people too far from the castle garrisoned in their homes, while those closer to it ran for the castle walls. Once the people were secure Canelyn's supporters from within the capital city rallied their men and turned on Angelus's own. It didn't take long for the enemy ranks to be in turmoil and confusion. When Canelyn's forces breached the walls, his army attacked only the militants.
While all the fighting had been happening throughout the three districts of Lensia, Canelyn personally rallied his best men and stormed the castle walls, which was easier than it normally would have been since Canelyn actually had supporters within the royal court. Within the castle keep, Canelyn and his men fought their way to the throne room, where the King would be lying in wait; armed and ready to battle for his Kingdom.
Once Canelyn entered his father's throne room, the King's men armed themselves and pushed Canelyn's own men outside of the throne room. Now it would be an honorable duel between father and son. “I know exactly why you chose to exile me...” Their weapons were drawn, but both remained still. “You went against the orders of your King, and were duly punished for your insubordination.” Canelyn was furious. “That's what you'd like me to think, is it not... father.” The King gasped. He knew it was only a matter of time that his illegitimate son would hunger for the throne. “You exiled me, because you feared what I was capable of!” Angelus didn't quite know what to think. “...It matters not why I exiled you, Canelyn. You were fated to die on this day, as told to me by my father.” Canelyn raised his sword with both hands and struck at his father, who clashed with Canelyn using an equal amount of force.
“You are weak! You fight for no one but yourself and your legacy!” Canelyn pressed against the king's sword even harder, overpowering him. “I fight for the Kingdom and its people! Why can't you see that?!” Angelus started to overpower Canelyn. He jumped back, evading Angelus's follow-up strike. “You've exhausted the Kingdom's resources, and you've watched as the people have suffered! What right do you have to sit on the throne?!” Angelus charged at Canelyn, this time striking at Canelyn's mid-section. Canelyn barely parried Angelus's blow, and slid a few ways backward. “It is my divine right, and you will not change that!” Canelyn raised his arm for another blow, this time, when Angelus blocked with his sword, it shattered in two, and was knocked out of Angelus's hand. Angelus fell to the floor on his back, what was left of his sword was beyond his reach.
Canelyn took advantage of this and stood over Angelus's lain position. “Your death will mark the rise of a new king, and a new age.” Angelus raised his sword with both arms ready to end his father's life. “I will not die by your hand, Canelyn!” Right before Angelus was about to be stabbed by the end of Canelyn's blade, he slid between Canelyn's legs, turned around and shoved him forward before he could react. Canelyn got up and ran for his sword, but at the very same time, Angelus ran for it as well. Angelus reached the sword before Canelyn did, and immediately swung it around slashing Canelyn deeply from the chest to his lower abdomen. Canelyn fell to the floor, and blood began pouring out from the wound inflicted on him.
Angelus dropped the sword Canelyn had been using, and began slowly walking in the direction of his throne. “Guards!” Four knights came rushing into the Throne Room. “The Lower City has fallen, and our men are barely able to resist Canelyn's forces in the Commons.” Angelus sat back on his throne. “...And what of the traitors, have you dealt with them?” The four guardsmen looked among themselves. “They've been cleared out of the keep... However, more and more continue to pour in from the rest of the city.” Angelus stood up from his throne. “Hand me your sword, Sir Knight. I must lead my men personally in order to raise morale, and hopefully turn the tide.” The Knight approached the king and handed him his sword. “Ensure that Sir Canelyn is dead.” One of the guardsman approached Sir Canelyn's body, and using his pike aimed its edge at the Canelyn's corpse. “Do it, now. We can present his head to the men.” The Guardsman nodded.
Suddenly, Sir Canelyn's body sprung to life. A radiant blue aura flowed interwoven about his body. When Canelyn opened his eyes, they were alight like a blue flame. The guardsman was knocked back by the sheer force of this new form, and using what appeared to be ethereal bow and arrow of the same radiance, he struck at all four guardsmen with a single arrow for each. It was metaphysical, and Angelus's mouth was gaped wide open in awe. “No, this is not right! My father spoke of our victory, not my demise!” He drew the sword that had just been handed to him, and stood there powerlessly. “Stand back! What are you?!” He asked waving his blade about. “Fate has no effect on me!” With that said he extended some ethereal blade right through Angelus's chest, silencing the king forever. Immediately afterward, Canelyn fell to the floor, back to his normal-self. However, he was no longer mortally wounded, only sweating from fatigue. Outside Canelyn could hear the cries of Angelus's guard, and hear the footsteps of his allies momentously entering the castle, perhaps in search of who would become the new King of Adregon. His mother had been the first to enter the throne room, and she smiled at the sight of King Angelus sol Adregon IV's corpse. Her son would now become King. King Canelyn lor Adregon I - Spoiler:
Once Canelyn became King of Adregon, it did actually mark the second era of the Kingdom's history. It would be ruled by an entirely different line of royal blood, and the old Kings would be no more. All of those who loyally supported Canelyn from within the Kingdom of Adregon were duly rewarded with new titles, rank and landholdings. The Kingdom of Galenth would become Adregon's strongest ally, and new policies would be passed that would be aimed toward returning Adregon to its former glory, in preparation of future conquest. Old-White and his bandits who aided Canelyn were looked at as expendable, and lacking any loyalty to the King or his subjects, and were either exiled from the Kingdom or executed altogether.
Those who were loyal to the former King, were exiled or executed. A new royal guard would replace the old one called the Ebon Wing, who were extremely loyal to Canelyn and set an example for the new royal regime. Varying soldiers and commanders were reassigned, or pledged their loyalty to Canelyn. The King's two heirs, who were two young to act during the invasion, or even understand their role, were given homes outside of the Kingdom of Adregon, in the care of Canelyn's uncle. Canelyn's mother became his chief adviser, and now had residence within Castle Adregon. Many of the Kingdom respects Canelyn's new regime, but a fraction of the majority are uncertain of him. Despite all of the changes Canelyn made, he still feels as though he needs to earn the people's respect and continue to prove that he will make for a better King. Role-Playing Sample: N/A | |
