Background InformationThe war began once King Angelus sol Adregon IV discovered that his most beloved wife was having a love affair with Sir Lundor, one of Angelus's greatest and most noble Knights. Sir Lundor ended up having to flee Castle Adregon for safety, and in his absence Angelus's Queen, Lady Erna of Clement was sentenced to death. Angelus would not accept her apologies or regrets, and looked at her as the greatest traitor he had ever known.
One the night of her execution, Sir Lundor arrived with some of his most loyal men, and fought to free the woman he loved, and prevent her execution. Sir Lundor managed to succeed this feat. and that's when Angelus knew he had to not only exile Sir Lundor but declare war on him and all who served him.
What resulted was a war that would last seven more years, and exhaust many of Adregon's resources. Later on during the King's war on Sir Lundor and his supporters, he had to go out and fight more often. In his long-term absence, he gave one of his most loyal Knights, Sir Canelyn of Ohndir, the responsibility of serving as Regent and leading his people during wartime.
At home, Sir Canelyn of Ohndir noticed the people's suffering, and as the war lingered, the once loyal Knight decided he'd have to act. He sent an envoy to the King within his camp along the Elmund coast, and pleaded for the King to utilize his army's marksmen. However, the noble King Angelus sol Adregon IV refused, explaining that to do so would be considered dishonorable in the eyes of not only his enemy but himself. King Angelus sol Adregon IV, realizing the number of casualties from his war against Sir Lundor, then vowed that upon reaching the island Fort Loyal's Blood was located on, he would not call upon any reinforcements; he said that either he'd return victorious, or Sir Lundor would roam freely upon his demise.
A few months of unsuccessful siege warfare ensued. Sir Canelyn, disagreeing with King Angelus IV's decision, chose to mobilize a battalion of the Kingdom's finest marksmen against the King's wishes. By the time Sir Canelyn's battalion arrived on the island where Fort Loyal's Blood stood tall, King Angelus had already lost over three-quarters of his men due to his army's disadvantageous position. When the marksmen arrived, they changed the tide of the battle, and managed to fire down on Sir Lundor's men bunched up within the fort's walls. After the fort's walls were breached, the Royal Army picked at Sir Lundor's forces one-by-one, killing each and everyone of them.
Sir Canelyn's bold move ended the nigh decade-long conflict, and despite their victory over Sir Lundor's forces, Sir Canelyn was punished for his insubordination to the King, and sentenced to exile.
